I’m on the fence with this one. I want to be like, “Yeah! Poison!” but I do agree with a lot of things religions have to say. If you do pick and choose the GOOD aspects, you have yourself some awesome moral guidelines. Do I believe that you should have to have a religion to figure those things out? Absolutely not. I think you should just be an inherently good person. I do, however, believe that most people suck and need some sort of incentive, I.e. hell and heaven. And answers for really big questions. Sometimes they just need a shoulder to lean on, and their “imaginary friend” is the only person they’ve got.
Idk man. I just don’t know.

Just take a look at the overall balance of good and evil deeds religion does. The outcome is crushing.

Oh, yeah, I know. But if people do it right-and some people do-it can influence some beautiful things. And it can influence people to save themselves. I am not religious and I am very weary of organized religion because of the way I was raised. I hate that people read so literally into it or use it for their own disgusting influence, but I have seen individuals use it to turn their lives around. Everything needs to be in balance, you know?

So what? ‘Save themselve’? From what? Doesn’t matter cause no matter how beautiful things religion can produce, can it withstand the weight of a death of a person being burnt for being witch? Can it withstand the weight of a persecuted homosexual’s suicide? Can it withstand the weight of deaths of people who wouldn’t have died have they used condoms? The answer is one and simple.

People tend to neglect all the bad stuff religion does to erase the dissonance. Religion does shitloads of a fucking sick things. And we were trained like lab rats to ‘respect’ that. Respect religious views, books, symbols and all that other crap. So there is a dissonance - we know it does helluva atrocities but we are forced to pretend or think it is alright for people to hold these beliefs (‘Oh mai god you’re persecuting me, offending me, waging war on my religion’) So most of us neglect the bad part focusing on the good stuff.

Guess what - if something causes good things to happen - it doesn’t make it true. And if something causes good things happen for the price of thousandfold more suffering, death and pain - that is a poison, that is an evil and that is an atrocity. You can do all the good stuff without religion. But you can’t do all the bad stuff religion does without it.
